Intensive Support
We provide intensive support to children with very complex needs: children whose behaviour is causing serious concern and children with complex health care needs. We work alongside families, foster carers and others to support children safely and to everyone's benefit. We are committed to inclusion and aim to prevent unnecessary separation of children from their families and communities.
We can develop life stories and ‘passports’ with children: friendly accessible guides to ensure a child’s needs are understood. We can provide assessment, advice and direct therapeutic work. We have qualified and experienced support workers and therapists with a range of specialist skills who can work directly in different communication methods, including sign language.
Most of our long term intensive support work is with children in London and the southeast, but we can work further afield to establish a programme and provide training and support so that this can continue locally.
How it works
We undertake an initial assessment and make clear recommendations. We can then provide skilled support workers with the right expertise and communication skills, who focus on specific goals agreed with the family, referring agency and where possible the child. We support children at home, at school, in nurseries, in leisure activities and in clinical settings. Work can be undertaken in our own playrooms or locally to the child in an appropriate space.
