Advocacy

Triangle supports children and young people to express their views about the things that matter to them.

"Children are not merely 'adults in training' but people who are able to form and express opinions, to participate in decision making processes and to influence solutions" (UN Convention on the Rights of the Child)

Triangle's advocacy team has particular expertise with children who communicate without speech (including deaf children and young people) and children with learning disabilities, autism or complex health care needs. Our advocates communicate using sign, symbols and a range of activity of activity and play based approaches.

We also provide advocacy training and work alongside established children's advocacy services to develop practice with disabled children, providing mentoring, support, resource development and supervision to working advocates.

We provide:

  • Short term advocacy on a specific issue
  • Long term individual or group advocacy
  • Support for the child to present their views in a range of media (in person, in writing or art, in film)

What makes us different?

  • Triangle's independence enables us to focus on the child's perspective.
  • Triangle's skills and resources ensure children's meaningful participation by responding to each child's individual needs.
  • Our expertise allows us to advocate through complex situations including child protection investigations and criminal or family court proceedings.
  • Triangle can provide 'best interests' advocacy where children cannot directly express a view other than through their behaviour.

Triangle also offers Intermediary services to the courts, please see here for more infomation
